What Has Become Of Our Youth?

We are growing up in a society that has NO respect for self and others.
We are growing in a society that has no respect for culture, tradition and most importantly, no respect for elders...  I am not trying to make a generalization here, I am well aware that there are many people who respect themselves, their culture and tradition and the elderly, but I am speaking of the ones that don’t. Why don’t they? And what happened in their life that they don’t see why this is wrong? Western influence? I'd like to believe so....

30 years from today I see a country that is filled with black folks  that have lil respect or no respect, i see our culture disappearing into thin air because we have chosen to live like white people, do as they do, forgetting that they have maintained respect for their beliefs, customs etc, but hey we still wanna be live them.

As a Zulu man, i have grown into a culture that preaches respect as one of the main survival strategies in life, other tribes as well have grown the same, but now we have chosen to disregard the way we were brought up and live like the Jones because we now believe that our culture is outdated. White people tell  us that your culture is outdated  and we agree, Instead of defending your culture you oppose it.
I feel sad for our humanity every day and maybe I am making too much into this but am I? I feel sad every time i see a 18 year old not being able to read or write his own language. I feel sad every time I see a young man disrespecting an elderly man on the streets,  When did respect for the elderly stop? What has happened in this young man’s life that he wouldn’t allow an elderly, frail, woman to get in front of him in line. Why did it anger him so much? This literally brings tears to my eyes.
The western civilization has taught us that slaughtering a cow for a certain ceremony is barbaric. BARBARIC...and because they have said so we see fit that we must abolish our way of life and blend in with their way of "civilization"...

Our black youth serves the white man well--he represents, speaks for and defends the white man. The black youth has been  designed to influence white opinion on the black man. The white man has local tools, national tools of our young black youth,  because he “speaks well”, he doesn’t sound like others, the fool smiles and agrees with white man, the white man tells him that his culture is barbaric,  the fool smiles and agrees with the white man.
400 years later we see the real truth of how the white man brainwashed the black man, kept him ignorant of his true history, robbed him of his self-confidence. “The white man is interested in the black man only to the extent that the black man is of use to him.” In our own country we have been relegated to second-class citizenship, because our youth has lost all respect.

Why not change all our surnames to "X"? Because we have little or no identity left.

A great man, Malcom X once said: " We must learn to become our own producers, manufacturers and traders; we must have industry of our own, to employ our own. The white man resists this because he wants to keep the black man under his thumb and jurisdiction in white society. He wants to keep the black man always dependent and begging--for jobs, food, clothes, shelter, education. The white man doesn't want to lose somebody to be supreme over. He wants to keep the black man where he can be watched and retarded. Mr. Muhammad teaches that as soon as we separate from the white man, we will learn that we can do without the white man just as he can do without us. The white man knows that once black men get off to themselves and learn they can do for themselves, the black man's full potential will explode and he will surpass the white man.

We are a generation that buys the most expensive clothes and cars and eat the cheapest food.

Never forget where you come from....

  1. I totally agree with the lack of respect we have for elders, especially those who are of a "lower social status".... How the youth treat their domestic helpers as servants, demanding things and reffering to them as just "The Maid". Growing up, my mother taught me that the uAunti osizayo was there to help, she is older than me, hence I treat her with the same respect as I treat my aunts.

  3. Can I just say what a relief to uncover someone who really knows what they are discussing on the web.

You definitely realize how to bring a problem to light and make it important.
A lot more people ought to read this and understand this side of the
story. I can't believe you are not more popular given that you most certainly have the gift.

Really? Please then explain Ethiopia which has NEVER been colonised. Explain Liberia which was populated mostly by freed slaves from the States? Explain Haitii which has had over 100 years of freedom from whites?

Why then are none of these countries economic powerhouses? Why do they have rampant corruption, murder, rape, poverty, starvation and have to continually hold out the begging bowl to western countries for aid? Why have they not yet created their own industries, producers, manufacturers and traders etc creating employment for their own? Like all other African countries have failed to do and end up begging from the west.

Yes, the potential is there - but the "I want it now" mentality prevents blacks from taking the time to learn and there is a wealth of knowledge, skill and expertise in the white community - whether you like it or not - that could be passed on.

And specifically in a South African context - the longer you vilify whites, blame them for ALL of your problems and failures etc there will be very few willing to pass on that knowledge which is what is keeping the black population back.

Alternatively if you dislike western culture so much, the black population must remove themselves from westernised civilisation in ALL its forms, separate themselves from the white culture and go back to subsistence living under tribal chiefs where you end up going to war over a couple of stolen cattle and continue to value your women by the amount of cattle that will be traded for her.

You cannot have it both ways - you either want to learn and participate actively or you want the separation and the chance to observe your own cultures and practices without having your youth influenced by modern societal structures and norms - pick.
